X1: Adult film in 3D from Barcelona

Report by Louis Hearn on 8 January 2010

x1-CARTEL01-REDUCIDOOmar Amor and Isabel Siquier have just fulfilled the dream of many a film school graduate: they have made their first feature-length movie with nationally renowned actors. What’s more, the new film, entitled X1, will be the first European porno in 3D.

The film would have been an ambitious undertaking even for a seasoned filmmaker. After collaborating on several short erotic films, one of which, Daily Pleasures, was featured in the Festival Erótico de Barcelona and the magazine Primera Línea, the two producers felt they needed a bigger challenge. They decided not only to make a full-length porno complete with elaborate story, sets and costumes, but to film it in the recently revived 3D format as well.

The story is set in the future after an apocalyptic nuclear holocaust, when the world is divided into two groups. One group lives in aseptic conditions, in which sex is prohibited, under the hospices of a meta-corporation. The other group lives in the city suburbs, where sex and drugs run rampant. The fun starts when the suburb ruffians steal the city folks’ virtual sex machine, called the X1, and discover a prototype level called “hardcore”, which is still in the process of being tested. The machine proves to be defective, and disaster ensues.

“The futuristic story gave us the possibility to film in places with the aesthetic that we liked,” says Omar, “such as abandoned factories and the social centers that collaborated with us. We liked the post-punk apocalyptic style mixed with futurism, and the virtual sex aspect allowed us to introduce the 3D images.”

“It’s a way to have porno live at home,” adds Isabel. “We’ve always wanted to have the sensation that you could reach out and touch an actor or actress. 3D gives depth to the image so that the ‘parts’ stick out.”

The film is directed by Pol Milander and is cast with professional actors whose work Omar and Isabel admired, such as Sandra G, Silvia Rubí, David Galant and Joel Acosta.

IMG_4711“We didn’t get any 1′80-tall blonde girls with silicone breasts because we don’t like that,” says Omar. “We’re fine with other people making films with that, but we wanted to make something that we liked. Both Sandra G and Silvia Rubi are ‘tough girls’ with lots of tatoos and piercings. In the film, Silvia Rubi is the protagonist, and she’s not the typical ditzy girl cleaning house who bangs the first who arrives, like in most porno films.”

“I don’t really feel offended by current porno, but at the same time I don’t feel connected,” says Isabel. “I think, ‘No, this isn’t in any way related to my sexual imagination.’ What we’re trying to achieve more than anything is a reflection of feminine sexuality, something that can excite us. That doesn’t necessarily have to be something delicate, or mean that you have to go slow, because that is also a male preconception of how we women live our sexuality. Women can be just as brutish and hard, but we use our feminine imagination.”

IMG_3388“We tried to be less phallocentric in this film,” says Omar. “In the first scene, for example, the woman cums three times before the man does. This is not a conventional film where the scene ends when the man orgasms. In fact, there are some male orgasms that aren’t shown.”

The film has been edited and is now being processed in 3D, and distribution is planned for January. Isabel and Omar are currently planning to sell the DVD, packaged complete with glasses, from their website rather than look for a distributor.

“If there’s a distributor who wants to work with us, perfect, but until then we’ll be distributing it ourselves and see how it works,” says Isabel. “The only thing we want to do is to earn enough so that we can continue doing films.”

“Not having a ‘godfather’ is a problem, because the money comes from our personal savings,” adds Omar. “We’re always in a precarious financial situation, and we have to work constantly just to pay bills. On the other hand, that also gives us the freedom to do whatever we feel like. We don’t answer to anyone but ourselves.”
