With corruption scandals erupting across Spain like a bad case of acne, angry taxpayers are all coming to the same conclusion; if in addition to walking and quacking like a sleazy conman, it also goes by the name of a sleazy conman, then in all likelihood you are dealing with a sleazy conman.
The biggest pimple to burst (and it is still oozing) is el caso Gürtel that has implicated major players in the Partido Popular from Valencia to Madrid in a web of shell companies and multimillion euro kickbacks (even ...

Abortion is synonymous with controversy all across the globe. Well, perhaps everywhere except in post-human France and in the social paradise called Scandinavia, but in Spain the debate has boiled up in recent weeks and brought out more than one episode of extreme behavior, suspicious dealings and even the downright oddball.

Before getting to the good stuff, it is worth setting the scene. The Spanish government has proposed to alter the standing abortion law to allow women to freely choose to abort in the first 14 weeks of a pregnancy, a time period that can be extended up to 22 weeks in the case of fetal deformity or risk to the mother’s health.

Oh Mariano, why won’t your women just leave you alone and let you get on with your job of telling the world how bad Spain’s economy is under a PSOE government while trying not to look too happy about how the nation is going down the gutter.
But no, they just can’t let a chance to question your manhood slip by. First it was Nebrera’s adéu, and now it is Esperanza Aguirre’s turn to step out of line. The president of the Comunidad de Madrid is once again putting Rajoy’s credibility as head of the Partido Popular to the test. The subject of the dispute is none other than the control of Caja Madrid, Spain’s fourth largest financial institution.

The neighbors of Park Güell have had enough. Used to be, they could walk around in peace and observe the unnatural beauty of the grounds designed by Barcelona’s favorite shrooming architect. Now it seems that every day the common rabble of the Ramblas is moving further up the hill. Where there used to be only a few sunburnt guiris (1.6 million in 2000, to be exact), there is now an annual flood of 4 million tourists who come to have their picture taken next to the happy lizard.
And just ...

The Partido Popular has got to be the Dallas (as in J.R.’s, not Jerry Jones’s) of the Spanish political scene. It is by far the best political show in the country, unless, that is, you like a bunch of bitter men in tweeds grumbling about one another incessantly, and then you can do no better than Esquerra. But if you can’t get enough of treachery, corruption, and yes, ladies, or at least, one lady who is rather easy on the eye, then the PP has been where it’s at for ...
